Mr. Handyman Teams with ELNCA Neighbor-In-Need Program
to Assist Family of Cedric Mills

ATLANTA, GA -- July 25, 2003 -- After an extended hospitalization, 19-year old gunshot victim Cedric Mills returned to his East Lake home today. The lives of Cedric and his parents, Clara and Jeffrey Mills of Arbor Avenue were turned upside down on June 4 when Cedric, while on his way home from playing basketball at nearby East Lake Park, was shot by an unidentified motorist as he walked along Memorial Drive.

With Cedric now paralyzed below the waist, the family not only faced the obvious challenges resulting from this terrible tragedy, they also discovered that they would need major modifications to their home in order to accommodate the special needs related to Cedric's use of a wheelchair. The immediate construction needs included a ramp leading to the front door of the home, widening of doorways inside the home, refitting of a bathroom, and the replacement of existing decking complete with wheelchair access.

Upon learning of the family's needs, The East Lake Neighbors Community Association (ELNCA) found a way to help through their Neighbor In Need (NiN) program. NiN immediately spread the word with corporate partners and community organizations. Among the key supporters of the Mills family home project are CoreNet Global, an Atlanta-based corporate real estate network that is providing funding for the necessary materials; Atlanta Youth Project, a community-based non profit organization that provided volunteer labor; Cool Ray Heating and Air Conditioning providing technical expertise and labor, and Mr. Handyman™ of Atlanta, a local provider of home and commercial maintenance, repair, and installation services that donated project management and construction labor.

"We created the Neighbor in Need program two years ago to help raise the standard of living and address quality of life issues in our local community", said Kyle Caldwell ELNCA board vice president and coordinator for the NiN program. "It's a blessing that Cedric has pulled through this tragedy and is able to return home. With both parents working, we knew that we could help make a difference for them. This and other such projects enable us to serve our neighbors. For our organization, it's especially gratifying to contribute to such transformations in people's lives."

Regarding the corporate participation in the project, Caldwell noted, "When we realized the level of construction that would be required, we contacted Mr. Handyman. We're pleased to be associated with partners like Mr. Handyman because they 'get it' - they give back to the community by stepping up to help at times of need".

Skip Gunther, president and owner of one of Mr. Handyman of Atlanta's four local offices added, "We are proud to play a part in helping this family in their time of need. When we learned about the challenges facing the Mills family, we just knew that we needed to help. We immediately sent one of our master technicians out to determine how we could assist. Once the plan was finalized, we provided the services of several of our team to oversee and participate in the project. The student volunteers from Atlanta Youth Project worked with our guys to provide the Mills' with the construction they needed to be ready for Cedric's homecoming."
